Okay, so first of all, this has been Spring Break for us here in Perryton, so the kids were at home with me all week - with the exception of Marha, who went to her mom's for the break. It was a pretty good week to start out with...
Zak and I went to Amarillo on first Friday of the break - we took Marha to meet her mom and we went on our date! We ate at Kabuki, went to the mall (which we NEVER do) and went to a movie (which we also NEVER do) on Friday night. We woke up the next morning and had a good breakfast and headed out to do some more shopping. It was just a nice relaxing 24 hours together. The girls had fun at Dolly's, of course!
On Wednesday, Mother and I took Kenna, Kimber, Kamryn, Dove, Robyn and Sophia to Amarillo for a day of fun. We went to chuck e cheese and then to the zoo. They even got to play at the park for a little while before we headed back home. It was a nice day to be out! My girls said they had the most fun at chuck e cheese, of course. I was just happy to get them out of the house and do something different! Thanks Dolly!
And here is where the REAL craziness begins...
On Friday evening, Zak and I took the girls out to eat. When we got home, Zak's newer pickup wasn't in the driveway. It took us a while to realize that it was really gone and that one of Zak's guys hadn't taken it. Then we were thinking that it might have been a prank. My mom called about that time to tell us that Becky Randall's house had been broken into. Only then did we realize that the pickup had been stolen. When the cops showed up at our house, we realized that there was another cop car a few houses down and that they had been broken-in to, as well. We were only gone for a little over an hour! Amazing how fast things like this happen!
Zak started remembering everything that was in his truck - a Kimber pistol, customers' keys and garage door openers, our garage door opener, Marha's birthday present from her Papa, etc. He was just sick. I didn't figure either one of us would get much sleep, and we really didn't. The more time that passed, the more we figured that the truck was far, far away - up in Kansas or on it's way down south. We really didn't think a local would have done this, b/c he was ringing doorbells to see who was home and when people would answer, he would ask for "Alex" - he did nothing to try to disguise himself.
We didn't sleep much better on Saturday night - the phone woke us up at 1am. The police dept was calling to tell Zak that they found his pickup on the northwest side of town and they needed him to come up to identify it and look it over. He wasn't allowed to touch anything, so he really doesn't know what all is missing, yet, but the gun was gone, for sure. There was also a little baggy of pills in the seat that weren't his. The pickup had definitely been through it - it was pretty beaten up - looked like it had been out in the country. At the time, they hadn't found any fingerprints, but the shoeprints they had matched the ones found at Becky's house. (He (or they) didn't really get anything at Becky and Keith's house - he more or less just trashed it! We think he was looking for cash. I feel for them.)
He will get his truck back tomorrow (Monday) and then we will know more. Me, Becky and a few other friends are about to take a concealed handgun course! We are also talking about getting the Neighborhood Watch program back up and running! Scary that all this happened in broad daylight in our little town of Perryton.
Hope everyone had a great week!
Love you all, Rox
I just still can't believe this happened! I'm relieved they found his truck but I was hoping the theif(s) would not find his gun. I'm so sorry this has happened to you guys. I love you.
